As explained by the leader of the All-Slovenian Uprising Uroš Lubej, the new party will be formed by the All-Slovenian Uprising, the Committee for Just and Solidary Society, and certain members of the Direct Democracy Network. "We are open to further cooperation," he added.
Damjan Mandelc from the Committee for Just and Solidary Society stressed that presently Slovenia is "free falling", and that it is "obvious that those who brought Slovenia down to its knees won't save it". Therefore the Committee decided that what is needed is "a determined, courageous political engagement", and they gave their support to those from the Committee wishing to make the changes come true through politics.
"As a political subject – the All-Slovenian Uprising – they intend to address and to carry through the requests demanded at the uprising, and the protests of the widest group of the country, namely decisive abolishment of corruption, achieving of transparency, responsible politics, preserving of the social state, strengthening of the rule of law, development of democracy, just distribution of generated, care for environment, clear and feasible economic programme, a model for a way out of crisis, international activation of Slovenia, appeal to just and solidary society," he explained.
He also emphasized that what happened with the uprisings "was something historical and unique, and calls for transformation into a strong political story". "We wish and intend to give the politics back to the people!" he assured.
Network as protection against plunder of property
Lenart Zajc from the Network for Direct Democracy at first explained that the Network was formed in last December, when the protests against the corruptive politics spread from Maribor to Ljubljana, as they saw direct democracy "as the only possible strong protection against plunder of our property, and against plundering ambitions of different cliques, both economic and political". But soon they realized that they wouldn't be able to achieve enough in the street, and that the only solution would be their own representative in the parliament.
"By forming a new party we would like to achieve greater influence of the citizens in decision-making process at managing the state, more substantial local self-management, and a society based on solidarity and cooperation, and not on elimination and rivalry," explained Zajc, and stressed that the network would persist outside the party as well. Those members who wish to take an active part within the political sphere have their support. He explained that from their members joining the new party commitment to the new political paradigm set by the Slovenian uprising is expected.
Movements share similar goals
Lubej is convinced that any crumbling of the forces resulting from the uprising of the people would threaten the realisation of the demands for reestablishment of a solidary and just Slovenia. "We believe one is more than three," he said and added that they have been cooperating with the Network for Direct Democracy and the Committee for Just and Solidary Society since the beginning of the uprising.
"Our basic programme orientations are very similar. Therefore it was a logical decision to form of a joint party. We feel a historical responsibility towards our nation, and towards this moment which is demanding a new paradigm both in Slovenian and in European politics, as well as people who are willing to engage," he said. He concluded by saying that the All-Slovenian Uprising movement would carry on as a civil society and protest movement after the formation of the party.
Cooperation is welcome
Lubej explained that all three movements formed a joint coordination committee which should perform all the necessary activities for a prompt founding congress of the party. "The congress will be organized as soon as possible," said Lubej. They all emphasized that other active uprising and civil society movements are welcome to participate at founding of the new joint party, as well as individuals. The party in formation will be inclined towards connecting with all the political forces willing to "accept the new paradigm of operation in Slovenian politics", they assured.
