Code-share agreement means that Adria Airways will put its code (JP) on the Delhi-Frankfurt-Delhi service operated by Air India, and the Frankfurt-Ljubljana-Frankfurt service will carry also the Air India code (AI). Air India signed the code-share agreement with Adria Airways in November of 2013, and in the beginning of December 2014 all the formal procedures arising from the contract on air traffic between Slovenia and India were successfully completed, was explained by Adria Airways.
"We are convinced that the code-share agreement will contribute to recognisability of both air carriers at home markets, and open the door to a number of new opportunities for cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of tourism," said the president of Adria Airways Management Board Mark Anžur.
The foundations for cooperation were laid in 2011
Adria Airways, Ljubljana Airport, and Air India have been striving for cooperation for some time. In June 2011 a memorandum of cooperation was signed at the occasion of the Slovenian-Indian business conference in New Delhi, and Slovenia ratified the agreement between Slovenian and Indian governments on regular air traffic, thus creating foundations for the agreement.
In July of 2014 Air India officially joined the World Airline Association Star Alliance, a member of which is also Adria Airways. The Indian air carrier generated the revenue of three billion dollars in the business year 2013/2014, and is planning to generate 3.5 billion dollars in the current year.
