In the 19th century the mountaineering and alpinist activity in the Slovenian Alps was under the strong German influence. Jakob Aljaž, priest from Dovje, was well aware of the fact, and he strongly opposed to further Germanisation. He purchased 16 square metres on the summit of Triglav for the sum of one Austro-Hungarian gulden, and built a tower intended as a mountain shelter, and a bastion of the Slovenian nation.

At 9 a.m. a commemoration was held at the summit of Triglav, followed by a formal event titled »Oj, Triglav, moj dom« (Oh Triglav, my home) in front of the Slovenian Mountaineer Museum in Mojstrana at 6 p.m, with the opening of the exhibition The Aljaž Tower - steel sheet with a soul!, and of the art exibition »Vrata 2015«.
