That may cause more problems than good results, as some herbs and medicines should not be mixed.
Slovenia is the only EU member where doctors who want to practice alternative medicine, such as homeopathy, have to give up their medical licenses. The Medical Chamber is now trying to regulate this field.
According to several healing associations more than 100 doctors are practicing both regular and alternative medicine. Certain standards in healing practices have yet to be agreed upon and an Alternative Medical Chamber has yet to be established.
The cost of homeopathic treatment in countries such as Switzerland, Belgium, France and the United Kingdom is covered by basic health insurance. It makes no sense that patients can get a homeopathic medicine at the pharmacy but Slovenia doesn’t have doctors who are allowed to prescribe these medicines to patients.
Looking at Slovenia’s history in terms of medicine one sees that the country has already had several acclaimed homeopathic doctors some 200 years ago. The next assembly of the Medical Chamber will show whether this tough nut will be cracked soon.
