Investing into the facilities, high-tech hardware and the supercomputer has cost nearly 4.5 million euros. A supercomputer of the first generation, which the Arctur company built six years ago, and its newest upgrade called Arctur 2 attempt to bridge the gap between science and industry. The company receives about 90 percent of its orders from abroad.
The opening of the modern data centre as well as the introduction of the Arctur 2 supercomputer took place at Kromberk near Nova Gorica and was also attended by Borut Pahor. The president of Slovenia emphasized that digital transformation (and the changes it is likely to bring) will have a significant impact on the children who are about to enter primary school – two thirds of them are likely to choose a profession that still does not exist today. Pahor believes the society should start preparing for these challenges, particularly in the mind-set of people.
Arctur is instrumental in propelling this progress, the president pointed out. The company has built its second supercomputer in cooperation with Sugon, China's biggest manufacturer of supercomputing and cloud computing hardware.
