The Zagreb native helped Olimpija to a double crown this year. The team won the Slovenian Championships, as well as the Slovenian Cup, in which Olimpija defeated Aluminij from Kidričevo with a score of 6:1.
The decision was not an easy one
“Such decisions are never easy, but I have no second thoughts, and I believe that it’s in the best interest of Olimpija. Still, I want to stress that Bišćan carried out the task he was given. I wish him success I the future,” said Mandarić, who had not been satisfied with the departing coach over what he perceived as the team’s insufficiently aggressive game play.
Bišćan: Thanks to the fans for their tremendous support
Bišćan, who led the team to 23 wins, 11 draws, and two losses in the 2017/18 season of the Telekom Slovenija PrvaLiga, issued a statement regarding his departure: “I’m grateful to the president for his confidence in me; I’m also grateful to all the employees and others who have ensured that this season turned out to be so historic. I would like to thank the fans for their tremendous support and my closest associates for their help guiding the team. I’m also grateful to the players, who should get the most credit for our extraordinary success.”
The management will name a new coach in the next few days.
