The Municipality of Bled already adopted an ordinance on the regime of navigation in Lake Bled back in 2009. The ordinance says that it is only allowed to rent wooden boats with paddles for use on the lake. The Intermunicipal inspectorate and traffic security from the municipalities of Bled, Bohinj and Železniki, has discovered five offenders renting inadequate vessels and has already acted against them.
It has issued an order banning them from conducting such activities in the future. If the offenders fail to respect the order, their vessels will be confiscated. The offenders had mostly been renting Stand Up Paddles (SUPs) and kayaks made of plastic materials. They are now no longer allowed to rent their vessels, even though they are registered.
Great demand for SUPs and kayaks
Those visiting Bled who have their own SUPs and other plastic boats can normally continue using them as the ban does not affect visitors. However, as many tourists bring their SUPs with them, and considering the great demand for them, some in Bled are already having second thoughts whether to change the ordinance and enable their rental, as they already constitute an important tourist offer.
