The ceremony in Trieste was attended by political, Church and military representatives. On the occasion, he said that now was the period when the Slovenian and Italian communities unite again. Pahor expressed two wishes: that the Italian as well as Slovenian language be used in the Trieste city council and that Trieste Mayor Roberto Cosolini, who presented the title to him, help preserve the memory of those who died in fascist camps. His 100th birthday will be marked on Monday at the SNG opera and ballet house in Ljubljana with a central ceremony.
