It was one of 50 works he presented during his brief time there. Despite this, there is not a single street named for Mahler in Ljubljana – or even in the country. There is a Beethoven street, and there’s even a bar named after Mozart - and Mahler has a small, often-overlooked bust in the city - but otherwise little to mark the residency of one of the greatest classical musicians in history.
The Slovene Philharmonic, where Mahler was guest conductor, is one of the oldest in the world. Both Beethoven and Brahms were honorary members. However, neither of them spent significant time in Slovenia.
