He says that structural measures are no longer possible and that expenses will be reduced by 40 million euros, to 9.6 billion. The widening of the deficit will mean a jump from the planned 3.2% of GDP to 3.4%. Slovenia has pledged to the EU it would keep this year's deficit at 3.2 percent of GDP.
The Finance Ministry will try to find some savings at the level of ministries, but these are expected to be limited. The missed deficit goal was caused by underestimated spending on interest and pensions. The former figure is EUR 151m higher than planned, while the latter around EUR 124m.
