The Slovenian Islamic community has chosen a company called Gorenje projekt as the general contractor for the construction of the Islamic Religio-Cultural Centre in Ljubljana. Mufti Nedžad Grabus and Uroš Razdevšek, the representative of Gorenje projekt, signed a contract worth EUR 11.5m, the sum which had been donated to the Slovenian Islamic community by Qatar in 2010.

So far EUR 8.2m have been invested in the project of the Islamic centre, while the total cost of building the complex is projected at EUR 22.6m, but for the project to be completed EUR 2.4m will be needed to furnish the interior and EUR 1.3m to build the access to the mosque by road and other necessary infrastructure.

The construction is due to start next week and will be carried out in several phases; the first phase is planned to be finished next year. The construction of the entire religio-cultural centre is expected to be completed in three years, by 2018.

In addition to a prayer hall, the centre will have a washroom for ceremonial washing, an educational, an administrative and a housing facility, while the subterranean premises will host parking lots, a restaurant and a gym.
