After the resignation of Jernej Sekolec, Slovenia has to appoint a new national member of the arbitration tribunal in 15 days. If it fails to do it, the decision and appointment of a new arbiter will then be made by the president of the Permanent Court of Arbitration. According to PM Miro Cerar, Slovenia will meet the 15-day deadline. At the meeting with the representatives of all parliamentary parties, a unanimous decision was made to appoint a new member of the arbitration tribunal.
The government will prepare a procedure for the naming of a new arbiter and then send it to the parliamentary Foreign Policy Committee. The committee will then convene on Saturday. The representatives of the country's parliamentary parties are to meet again next week and decide on the name of the candidate, said PM Cerar. The meeting is expected to take place early next week, and government might make its decision on the new candidate by Wednesday.
After the meeting, PM Cerar also said his expectations were that the Permanent Court of Arbitration continues its work and makes a final ruling on the border dispute between Slovenia and Croatia.
