Cerar expects an agreement on the closure of the Balkan route to illegal migrants. He emphasized that the initiative by Slovenia is thus materializing and that it was the first operational, effective, joint and coordinated action of a group of countries ranging from Austria to Macedonia.
At the closure of the Balkan route this cooperation should be intensively upgraded with aid to Greece, and Macedonia as well.
The first refugees from the plan to be accepted in April
Cerar also said that, in compliance with the EU relocation plan, the refugees with legitimate reasons should be allowed residence in the EU.
After the illegal migration wave is stopped, Slovenia is willing to accept the first refugees from the EU relocation plan, and to meet the agreed figure of 567 refugees in a year and a half.
Thus, according to Cerar, in April Slovenia will accept the first 40 to 50 refugees, followed by about as many each month, until the mentioned number is reached, i.e. in a year and a half.
Slovenia responsible for the outer Schengen border
Once the Balkan route is effectively closed, it will be possible to remove the technical obstacles from all the borders, especially within the Schengen zone, Cerar said. Again he emphasized the special position of Slovenia, which has to protect the outer Schengen border, while Austria is in a different position.
