Last week, at the first anniversary of the government, most of the Ministers presented their achievements. The last was the prime minister, the president of the government Miro Cerar. "I would like to emphasize that our government has brought political stability. It is easier to breathe, we are all relieved of pressure – including the economy, and all subsystems," Cerar said and continued that it was important to be aware of this accomplishment, as peaceful environment for the economy is a basis for political stability.
Cerar said that the government gives emphasis to such topics and challenges which are of importance to our, and to the future generation, avoiding the ideological topics which have no impact on our lives now, nor in future. They have shown how to cooperate with the opposition, listing the topics as e.g. post-war burial grounds, fiscal law, LBGT topics
The Prime Minister explained that it was his wish to awaken optimism within the younger generation, and emphasized the importance of the fact that unemployment among the young has diminished by 13%. "I want the young to stand a chance," he said. He mentioned that 237 young interns would be employed in the public administration, which was not the practice in the past years.
He also listed the achievements on the economic, and social field. The risk of poverty stopped increasing, and the government must make a transition and start reducing the poverty among the Slovenian people. A number of measures have already been introduced, as e.g. debt write-off, and others are planned. On the other hand the economic growth has increased, along with private consumption.
"The international environment is unstable, but we want to preserve stability at least within Slovenia," he said and enumerated some measures – e.g. abolishment of administrative obstacles, optimisation of the public administration, changes in public procurements, survey of state-owned real estate…. According to him, Slovenia is recognized by the world as a successful country which is moving forward, which gives us impetus and optimism, and attracts foreign investors.
Undisturbed protection of Slovenia
The present refugee problem could not be avoided in the presentation. We are assuring the undisturbed functioning of our country and our system, people and assets – we are controlling the border crossings and providing for the people in distress, the refugees. Slovenia is making constructive arrangements with Germany and Austria regarding passage of refugees, thus gaining approval. But this is only the beginning, and we must not abate. In case the situation escalates, Slovenia intends to ask for additional EU funds.
