For Christians, Easter is a celebration of hope, since the religion preaches that Jesus Christ died and then rose from the dead three year later, opening the path to eternal life for humankind.
Easter processions and masses of the resurrection took place in churches across Slovenia and the world on Sunday. Families gathered for the traditional Easter breakfast, which consists of dishes blessed on Holy Saturday.
Archbishop and Metropolitan of Ljubljana Stanislav Zore led Sunday's Mass of the Resurrection at the Ljubljana Cathedral. Zore touched upon current events during sermon, and emphasized that the world we live in is full of reasons for incertitude and fear. "My dear brothers and sisters, know that love is stronger than any fear, it conquers any fear. I hope that through resurrected Jesus, you will decide to live a life led by love and not fear. Because love brings life, while fear opens the door to death," preached Zore.
Bishop of the Evangelist Church Geza Filo led the worship at the Church of Primož Trubar in Ljubljana. In his sermon, Filo pointed out that the resurrection of Jesus into eternal life was a Christian response to humankind's fundamental yearning for life, "which cannot accept that death would have the final say".
