The construction of the city cinema included in the draft of the strategy is contained within the objective which should assure the accessibility of quality film production in the city centre. Presently only Kinodvor is serving that purpose, as a public institute within the Municipality of Ljubljana, yet is hindered especially by restricted space, limited to a small auditorium at the Kolodvorska street.
The only cinema with growing turnout
As explained, since September 2008 when established, the Kinodvor public institute has significantly influenced the cinematic offer in the city, and in the seven years of its existence presented more than 1,600 films. It substantially improved the cinematic cultural offer of the city, as a large part of these films would not be included in the cinematographic distribution. Kinodvor is also praised for its cinematic educational programme Kinobalon, which became known to all the Slovenian educational establishments.
The great obstacle for accessibility to the programmes offered by Kinodvor is the lack of space – they own a single auditorium, therefore they organize open-air film events, or appear as a guest at other cultural establishments in Ljubljana.
Not only cinema, but a cultural centre
Due to ever larger offer of quality films provided by film distributors, and programmes by non-profit cultural sector, and considering the great interest the audience shows in quality film offer and accompanying events, it makes sense to devise a miniplex, a creative social-cultural centre, is the explanation given in the draft of the strategy.
Four new auditoriums
For the new miniplex three smaller, and one larger auditorium are planned, was communicated from Kinodvor. They hope the new premises will provide conditions for the concept of a city cinema as a creative cultural centre for all generation, with anemphasize on the diversity of programmes, and the intention to attract new, especially young audiences.
