The poetry collection Love - the fruit of soul and body, includes 90 poems, divided into a number of cycles (Our oasis, Two scorching suns...). Zlobec selected the poems himself. “I have to say there was a little bit of self-admiration in this. I even think poets can’t live without self-admiration. If they can’t respect their own work, how can they expect others to respect it,” said the poet at the presentation. Zlobec will celebrate his 90th birthday on the 4th of July. Numerous poets describe love through the lens of an individual emotion (elation, admiration...). Zlobec’s love poetry embraces many different aspects of love: ranging from elation, sorrow, pain and fatherly love to doubt.
One of the rare poets who sings about his wife
In poetry, it is rare for a poet to praise his wife in his poems the way Zlobec does. “My wife is not here today. She keeps reproaching me for speaking publicly about her. That is why I won’t comment on that,” he answered humorously. “We are all vain to a certain degree, that we want to squeeze out the maximum from our love relationship. Our day-to-day life might be banal and we can help ourselves with positive fiction. That is why I say: this poetry collection is in fact the autobiography of my soul - moving from pure passion to a painful memory.”
