The event attracts over 20,000 visitors yearly. On this day each year Tržič becomes a town of craftsmen, shopping, sports and entertainment.

The town, which is also well known for many different types of crafts, is richer for a new permanent exhibition about shoemaking. The museum of Tržič has restored its main exhibition dedicated to the craft of shoemaking to mark the 50th anniversary of its establishment.

Dr. Bojan Knific, an ethnologist at the museum, says that the new display brings a more modern, interactive way of showing how shoes used to be made traditionally. He also believes that the local tradition of making shoes has not died out completely, but that nowadays modern shoes are being made and such fine pairs can be bought at the fair in Tržič.

The tradition of the Cobblers’ Sunday is connected to an old custom when the shoemaker’s apprentices were promoted into assistants. A fair and a public festivity bring lots of traditional items, including shoes and other leather products, as well as local food and wine-tasting events for visitors to enjoy.
