According to our unofficial, but trustworthy sources, ambassador Geržina has already received an agrément from Croatia. The foreign ministry is to receive the document today. According to our sources the documented is dated 18.08.2015.
Both foreign ministries, in Ljubljana and Zagreb, declined to confirm the information. More is to be known after meeting between PM Miro Cerar and Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec. It will also be interesting to see what President Pahor will decide to do, after he put on hold the appointment of new ambassadors on Tuesday.
It would not be the first case, if an ambassador is not appointed to a post even after receiving an agrément from the host country. However, it would be extremely uncommon.
Such a decision would be the result of internal political games and the measuring of political powers. And Croatia is probably taking advantage of the unsettled state of condition Slovenia’s diplomacy is in, and the evident disparities between the foreign ministry and country’s presidential office.
