It's been three years since the affair came to light. The British newspaper »The Sunday Times« secretly recorded Thaler agreeing to be paid in exchange for services in the European Parliament. According to unofficial information, Thaler has acknowledged his guilt and in addition to a fine, faces weekend jail time and restrictions on his future employment.
