Election blackout set in last night at midnight, ending campaigning for more than 20 000 candidates.

Election silence came into force ahead of the local elections. This means that all propaganda that could affect voters' decision is banned until polling stations close tomorrow at 7 PM.

Any possible violations of the election silence can be reported to the interior ministry via telephone by dialing 080 12 00 or 080 21 13. Individuals found guilty of disregarding the election silence will be fined between 150 and 400€ while the fines for organizers of campaigns can be as high as 3000€.

More than 1.7 million people are eligible to vote the mayors and local officials for 212 municipalities.
