Slovenia has an independent foreign policy, assures minister Erjavec. He has been in charge of Slovenia's diplomacy for three consecutive governments. According to Erjavec, Slovenia's foreign policy strives for peace and the respect of international law and human rights. At the same time it doesn't consider its military alliance with the sole world empire, the U.S., to be an issue. According to minister Erjavec there are no empires. He says it would be difficult to talk about empires today.

Minister Erjavec is not critical of Slovenia's almost a quarter of a century old foreign policy. Erjavec agrees with U.S President Obama's acknowledgment, that the rise of the Islamic State is a consequence of the US invasion on Iraq in 2003. However, Erjavec says that Slovenia could not be held responsible, although it was part of the "Coalition of the willing".

Regarding the Ukraine crisis, Erjavec emphasized the lack of dialogue between the West and Russia. He adds that Moscow should be acknowledged as an important factor in the solving of other crises as well. But apart from its alliances and memberships, Slovenia has a "completely independent" foreign policy.
