Minister Erjavec warned that there are five other candidates from the EU for new UN Secretary-General. "The EU has neither the authority nor has it taken any joint positions on each individual candidate," stressed Erjavec, adding that O'Sullivan’s comment was inappropriate and surprising.
Mr. O'Sullivan made a tweet on Twitter that he was happy about Georgieva’s candidacy and that she would make a great UN Secretary-General. He later deleted the debatable tweet, but it’s not yet clear whether Slovenia will take any action in Brussels over the issue.
Last Wednesday Bulgaria announced that it no longer supported UNESCO Director-General Irina Bokova for UN Secretary-General, as she showed poor results in the series of secret ballots at the UN. Instead of Bokova, Bulgaria will now back the current EU Commissioner for Budget and Human Resources, Kristalina Georgieva.

According to media reports, Georgieva is to become "EU’s informal candidate." The initiative for her candidacy has reportedly come for several smaller countries, backed by Germany.
