They say that because of Slovenia's strategic position, transportation is actually a more important portfolio than energy. They point to the fact that Slovenia lies along one of Europe's most important traffic corridors.

Prime Minister Miro Cerar said he was happy with the appointment, calling transportation one of the key exit points from the crisis. Cerar did not comment on the fact that Slovenia lost a vice presidency position in the European Commission, which many other parties did.

Violeta Bulc is an entrepreneur and political novice. She was nominated after the candidacy of former Prime Minister Alenka Bratušek collapsed. Bulc will have her confirmation hearing on Monday.
