The pavilion presenting Slovenia at the Expo world exhibition in Milan will from now on carry the name Vrata v Pomurje (Door to Pomurje), and it will stand on the field between the Sobota Lake and the highway. It will attract tourists and other visitors to Pomurje. Miro Cerar in his speech at the ceremony expressed his expectations that it would attract a large number of visitors, just as it did in Milan.
An excellent business model with a long-term financial vision, assured assets, ordered documentation and space, and cooperation at the regional level are the arguments which convinced the government to hand over this attractive architectural achievement to Murska Sobota, which was chosen from a large number of Slovenian municipalities competing for the pavilion.
In autumn the necessary work will start for the erection of the pavilion, and within a year it should take its role as a business and tourist centre for the entire region of Pomurje.
As it is an important economic achievement for the region, the funds required for the development of activities of the Vrata v Pomurje pavilion will be secured by the act on Pomurje region, namely EUR 950,000, and EUR 500,000 from the municipality budget. They will try to get additional funds by competing for participation in cross-border projects with Austria and Hungary.
