According to TV Slovenija correspondent Petra Držaj several parts of the fence are in the water. The Kolpa river had already reached the depth of 4 meters, but has already withdrawn. At Vinica the fence is still in the water. The fence has already been removed from the immediate vicinity of the border crossing, and it is being removed from the bathing site at Damelj, where in places the water is still too high. Unofficial information is that the removal of the fence is temporary, and that it will be stored for an indefinite period of time in the barracks in Novo mesto. We have requested information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which will be published immediately upon receipt.
The government started erecting the fence last November in order to control illegal crossing of the border due to a large number of refugees. Although the government avoided answering questions regarding the erection of the fence by Slovenia –in spite of disapproval by our state expressed regarding the fence erected by Hungary – in the end they admitted that 'technical obstacles' would be erected at the border. The government claims that the price of the fence is confidential, but the estimates show that the sum amounts to approximately two million euros.
The fence initiated a wave of protests from the inhabitants, and annoyance, and even before the fence was erected a number of warnings have been given, among others the fear that wild animals would get entangled in the fence, and that large quantities of driftwood and debris would become trapped in it. And exactly that happened.
