The hotel staff noticed smoke coming out of the highest floors when most of the guests at the four-star hotel were at breakfast or on the city. First to be evacuated were guests in the upper floors, and soon after that the entire hotel was emptied.
Initial information says the lower part of the hotel attic, where there's an attic apartment, first caught fire. The fire quickly spread due to the structure and shape of the attic, said the commanding firefighter Jure Dolinar.
Putting out the fire was more difficult than expected because of the slippery and steep slope of the roof. Reaching the source of the fire was, thus, quite a challenge.
According to the hotel's representative, Maja Kosem, none of the hotel rooms were damaged. The hotel remains open and only a few rooms in the highest floors will remain closed.
