"With the coaching team we decided that I will not be jumping in Wisla, because I would have to change and fix a few things in a hurry. So I will definitely miss out on Wisla, and probably at a few other events as well, in order to prepare myself and raise my form in peace. I’ll start competing when I’m ready," explained Peter Prevc, who will thus miss the World Cup opening in Poland and hinted that he might also miss a few of the other jumping events.
Will Prevc start his season in Finland, or Russia, or…?
After Wisla the next event will be in Ruka (24th and 25th of November) where the winter ski jumping season previously always started. From Finland the ski jumping circuit will move to Russia in Nizhny Tagil (1st and 2nd of December). Later, the December series will take place in Titisee Neustadt and Engelberg, which will be followed by the traditional highlight event of the winter – the Four Hills Tournament.
The best Slovenian jumper underwent two surgeries this year on his left ankle, which is why he did not take part in the summer season and did not have any intense preparations. He tried to make a quick return to the skis and practice, but he clearly rushed things as the surgery had to be repeated. Prevc publically announced then that he would no longer rush things and try to return to the World Cup as fit as possible.
Team for Wisla not yet selected, strong winds in Innsbruck
"I’ve still not named the team for the first event of the season in Poland, but it’s clear that Peter Prevc will not be in it. The decision is a preventive measure, as we have had bad experience at this jumping hill in the past. It was very poorly prepared last season, so we won’t risk it," the ski jumping head coach Gorazd Bertoncelj explained the decision, adding that Prevc still had problems moving his ankle.
Otherwise, Slovenia’s jumpers are having no luck with the weather in Innsbruck. "The wind is too strong today, so we can’t have any practice, and the forecast for the following days is not too promising either. This surprised us a bit, because it did not seem that it would be this way, but now there’s a strong southwesterly wind across the whole of Europe, so even elsewhere they can’t jump," concluded Bertoncelj.
