A session of the municipal council was held after the government decided to activate its contingency plan and the asylum centre in Logatec. The government decided for the move because of the increased number of applications for international protection. However the decision sparked fear among the local population that refugees sent back from other European countries would be accommodated in their vicinity.

In the beginning of the month the municipal council adopted several measures demanding that only vulnerable groups of asylum seekers be accommodated in Logatec, like for example families with school-age children coming from war zones. The council also demanded that the accommodation of refugees be a gradual process, with only up to 50 persons in the first period. Later, once the security and other issues are established, and mutual trust between the refugees and local community is developed, the municipality would be ready to take in up to 108 persons.

The Municipality of Logatec has informed its residents about the new accommodations in the asylum centre via its website. Data from the ministry says that 507 people have filed asylum requests in Slovenia between the 17th of September and the 7th of March.
