The fishing season has started. Angling clubs have prepared well for the season, as they've put more than half a ton of American trout or rainbow trout into the rivers for recreational fishing.
On the very first day of the season fisherman's luck (or knowledge) smiled upon Matthew Calderaro from the U.S. He took a photo with the amazing almost 1-meter-long Soča trout he caught. He then let it go and this big fish is still swimming in the Soča River. "What the river gives, I give back," is the American's rule. This American fisheries biologist opened his Soča Fly agency in Kobarid. Calderaro is confident that he can bring more U.S. recreational fishermen to the Soča valley. "Fly fishing in the Soča and her tributaries is certainly the best in Europe. I would like to share this beauty with others. Fishermen in the U.S. don't know your country, but this will change very soon."

The fishing tourist is not afraid to spend money on beauty and experiencing something authentic. Calderaro says that a tourist spends more than three hundred euros in just one day of fishing – for the permit, for hiring a guide, finding quality flies and lodging. "Fly-fishing is a ceremony, a ritual in which money is not an issue."
