The former long-time head of the Novo Mesto pharmaceutical company Krka, Miloš Kovačič, has passed away. He led the company until the year 2004.
Miloš Kovačič was born in 1934 in Šentjernej in the Dolenjska region. He started his career as a pharmacist in a chemist's shop. In 1962 he became president of the Slovenian pharmacists and two years later the head of the Yugoslav society of pharmacists.
In 1964 Kovačič was named head of Krka's commercial sector and in 1985 he was named Krka chief-executive. After the fall of Yugoslavia, under the leadership of Kovačič, the Novo Mesto-based pharmaceutical company started producing its own generic drugs. Poland and Russia became some of the most important new markets for the company, where Krka also opened its own factories.
In 2003 Kovačič was named honorary consul of Poland in Slovenia. In 2004 Russia’s president awarded Kovačič the "order of friendship" for his contributions in strengthening the economic ties and friendship between the two countries. Kovačič headed Krka until the end of 2004. After that he acted as a counselor for the Krka management. He was succeeded at the helm of the company by his long-term deputy, Jože Colarič.
