German Chancellor Angela Merkel came to Slovenia in August 2011, while President Borut Pahor was in Berlin last year. The new prime minister, Miro Cerar, also chose Germany for his first trip abroad. At the forefront of talks in Ljubljana are Slovenia’s plans to reform the government and more than likely the ongoing privatization process. Deutsche Telekom is a potential buyer of the company Telekom Slovenije.
Germany is one of the biggest investors in the country and for Slovenian exporters the largest foreign market. Slovenia generates about one-fifth of its foreign trade in Germany. Last year the goods and services trade between the two countries reached nearly 10 billion euros.
