Slovenia’s National Youth Council warns that the biggest problems the country’s youth faces are finding work and a home. They call on the government to fulfill the promises it made to the young – the regulation of paid internships, the adoption of a national housing program and improving the quality of higher education.
Even though the unemployment rate among the young is decreasing, in the last ten years the risk-of-poverty rate has doubled – also thanks to precarious work. Two out of three young people are precarious workers.
The concerns of the young are also connected to finding a home. Around 85 percent of Slovenia’s young population still lives with their parents, which is the highest percentage rate in the EU.
