He will perform twice: tonight in the Cankar Hall, accompanied by the Slovenian Philharmonic orchestra and the conductor Uroš Lajovic, and on Tuesday with a recital at the Slovenian Philharmonic Hall.
When Lugansky won at the Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow in 1994, the newspapers wrote: "It was a musical shock. Nobody could imagine that the soul of this unpretentious, modest young man, with his ascetic, but also poetic appearance, held such a volcano inside with inspired and resolute
control."
Today he is considered a sought-after representative of Russian pianism. He appears at a number of concert stages and at major festivals, performing with the world greatest orchestras and conductors. He often plays in chamber groups, and with soloists. His repertoire contains more than 50 piano concerts, and a number of solo and chamber compositions.
His talent was not overlooked
He is the winner of numerous prestigious competitions, among others Johann Sebastian Bach Competition in Leipzig, Sergei Rachmaninoff Competition in Moscow, and Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow. He is also the art director of the Rachmaninoff Festival, and the patron and regular guest at the Ivanovka Museum, which used to be the summer residence of Rachmaninoff. His recital CD featuring Rachmaninov's Piano Sonatas won the Diapason d'Or and an ECHO Klassik Award, was reported by the Festival.
Two nights, two different performances
At the Cankar Hall he will perform, accompanied by the orchestra, the works of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, Frederic Chopin and Stanislaw Moniuszk. At Tuesday his recital at the Slovenian Philharmonic Hall will feature the compositions of Franz Schubert and Tchaikovsky.
