The Minister of the Interior Vesna Györkös Žnidar at the press conference after the closed government session gave no clear explanation regarding the additional restrictive measures. She only assured that Slovenia was ready for all kinds of scenarios, and that the necessary measures would be taken immediately were they necessary.
In her words, or "as far as she knows", Slovenia for now does not have "technical obstacles" which could be used at the border with Croatia. In her opinion that should be left to the professionals, and the technical obstacles will not be used for closing the border completely, but to manage the migration flow, and deter illegal migrations.
The Minister emphasized that the government discussed not only the fence or technical obstacles, but comprehensive measures, and will do everything necessary to protect the borders, while respecting humanitarian principles. The European rules will be respected as well, e.g. Schengen rules, in spite of the fact that those rules were not intended for the present situation.
"Slovenia is the first country on the Balkan route which is making the outmost efforts to reduce the migration pressure," the Minister said at the press conference. In the meantime medium-term solutions should be found outside Slovenia, in Greece, Italy, and other countries with outside borders of the European Union. Slovenia is not one of those countries, therefore it cannot accept the Frontex units, she announced.
