A hit and run driver has been sentenced to eight years in prison by the Ljubljana District Court today. In May, the 35 year old from Ljubljana killed two 19-year-old women while driving under influence. Stanko was driving without a valid driving licence as he hit two 19-year-olds at a zebra crossing late on the 6th of May. He fled the scene, but then returned on foot for a licence plate he had lost. The accident caused a stiffening of road safety regulations and parliament passed a motion in July to introduce harsher punishments for repeat offenders and reintroduce the possibility for police to impound vehicles.
