After talking to his Croatian, Austrian, and Croatian counterparts, PM Cerar said there was a realistic possibility that Hungary closes its border with Croatia in the coming days. Some entry points would remain open, however there is a realistic possibility for most of the border to be closed.
"In such a scenario the flow of refugees would be redirected from Croatia towards Slovenia. We would then have to implement measures we have intensively been preparing for. Just like during the first wave of refugees, in this case we would also have to establish maximum border control with regards to the fact that we have a Schengen border with Croatia," said Slovenia's PM, reports Radio Slovenija. He also added that Hungary's reasons for the possible closure of the Hungary-Croatia border were not fully clear. In PM Cerar's opinion, their decision would be easier to understand if the Austrians or Germans stepped up border controls. However, under the given circumstances, such a radical approach is difficult to understand, added Cerar.
PM Cerar stressed that Slovenia was ready, but did not wish to undertake any unilateral action. He added that he had already told that to Hungary' PM Orban in Brussels.
