Lara Gut has won this season’s sixth downhill, beating Sofia Goggia in 2nd place by five milliseconds. The best Slovenian female skier and the overall leader in the ‘royal’ discipline Ilka Štuhec won third place.
Štuhec has shown an excellent performance at the Olimpija delle Tofane ski run. The Maribor-born skier had been struggling with ankle problems recently but proved she is back to being her “best version” with fastest result in the first practice run and fourth result in the second. Ilka had won the first three downhill competitions of this season. However, her winning streak ended with fifth and eighth place.
Ilka’s first third place
This is Štuhec’s fifth time at the podium after having won three downhills and one combined match, and it’s her first third place. After Ilka Štuhec, Lindsey Vonn and Christine Scheyer, Lara Gut became this season’s fourth downhill winner. During her career, Gut has won 23 matches, seven of these in downhill. Cortina is her fifth victory this year. Vonn had been a favourite as well but dropped out of the competition after repeating her pre-jump mistake from the practice run.
