One of the complications which helped to drive away the Hungarian-Canadian partner from the Emonika project was the dispute between the Bus Station and the Slovenian Railways on the ownership of the plateau at the Square of the Liberation Front, where busses stop.
The Ljubljana Bus Station is uncovered and would probably have difficulty passing an inspection, as passengers have no protection against elements, and quite often the violate traffic rules in order to get to their bus.
Firmly convinced on moving the station
The Mayor of Ljubljana Zoran Janković claims that the situation will change soon, and that a progress has finally been made: "The dispute lasted almost 10 years, and now the Bus Station in owned by the Slovenian Railways. Even without Emonika they would move the Bus Station to the other side. The discussion is going on. The Bus Station will be moved to the Vilharjeva street, I am certain about that."
With or without the new passenger complex - the representatives of the Slovenian Railways refuse to talk about the new negotiations, but the Mayor Janković did say the negotiations were "heated".
Potential investor?
"There is a potential investor, negotiating presently with Trigranit. Once the contract is signed, the contract will be made with the Slovenian Railways, and we are the next stop," the Mayor of Ljubljana explained. He hopes the contracts on the transfer of ownership from Trigranita to the new investor could be concluded this year, so that next year it would be possible to apply for a building permit. Whether an office building, a hotel and a commercial centre will be a part of the project depends on the result of the negotiations.
