According to the Slovenian Environmental Agency (ARSO), the country was hit by two heatwaves this year. Ljubljana saw eight days of temperatures above 35 °C. Bilje (Nova Gorica) saw seven, Novo mesto five, Celje four, and Portorož (Airport) three. Low-lying parts of Central Slovenia had a record number of days in which the temperature exceeded 30 °C.
In almost all parts of the country, it was the hottest July since records began – even hotter than last year’s record-setting July. Three weather stations reported record-high temperatures for the month of July: Kredarica, Brnik (Airport) and Ljubljana. It was two to four degrees Celsius hotter than in the same period last year. The month of July was mostly dry, but due to the rainfall at the end of the month, precipitation levels were only slightly lower than the norm.
