Apart from the double chairlift on Veliki Graben, everything else will be finished by the end of the week and be followed by a testing period – in accordance to the almost 6 million euro deal with the Ministry of Economy. The Kanin cableway started running again on the 9th of September and since then it has transported around 1750 people. It will definitely stay operational for the next two weeks. After that its working will depend on the interest and weather. In the sunny weekend behind us more than 800 hikers used the cableway in order to gain better starting positions for hiking up Kanin’s summits. Among them was also Mitja from Ljubljana: "Today we climbed up to Visoki Kanin. We took the cableway up to the top station and then walked for another two and a half hours in each direction. The ride is quite long – 45 minutes – but it is nice. The feelings are nice. We relived some our memories of skiing here 35 years ago and never again after that. Maybe we’ll come back this year."
The contract will be fulfilled
The head of the Kaskader company, Peter Poljanec, says that all the work on the chairlifts will be completed this week. "At this moment we have already completed 98 percent of the work. What is left are only a few details. The Prevala site is basically finished. Today we’re waiting for an electric cupboard to arrive from France for the Skripe site. We will need another three of four days to set it up." The president of the municipal commission for the renovation of Kanin, Danijel Krivec, hopes that the Ministry of Economy will be understanding regarding the contract: "Of course one can ask the question, what does the end of the renovation work mean: Is it the end of the physical work or just the end of the paper in our hands? It depends on how you interpret it. I hope that the Ministry of Economy will understand our situation. All the delays in work were a consequence of demands put forward by the equipment manufacturers and the Slovenian National Building and Civil Engineering Institute, regarding safety issues. And we have fulfilled all those demands." The municipality wishes to hold the official opening ceremony on the 29th of November, and officially start the new ski season on the 1st of December – snow permitting of course.
