Katarina Stegnar is a graduate theatre and film actress, familiar with both drama and film acting, but in her theatrical poetics distinct non-dramatic orientation can be noticed.
While creating her theatrical expression, Stegnar toes the thin line separating public from personal, constantly overstepping it. It seems that in her performances from the last period - Upor ni človek or Katarina po naročilu (The Rebel – Katarina a la carte) – her creations arise from the depth of her body and soul, and she is laying bare her depth over and over again, thanks to the great shape her disciplined body is in. Besides Katarina po naročilu, among her recent creations we should mention the performance directed by Matjaž Pograjc Pavla nad prepadom (Pavla above the precipice) from 2013, and the movie by Sonja Prosenc Drevo (The Tree) made two years ago.

Katarina Stegnar (1976), present at the theatre scene since the turn of the millennium, is one of the most active participants of Via Negativa, the platform for research, development and production of modern theatre art. She is also a member of the Betontanc group, collaborates with the Gledališče Glej theatre, Anton Podbevšek Theatre from Novo mesto, and SNG Drama Ljubljana. Since 2014 she is a member of the Slovenian Youth Theatre. She was awarded the Prešeren Fund Award for her achievements in the last two years.
