The event named Lace on the Street with a large number of participants took place just before the beginning of the World Lace Congress of the International Organization for Bobbin and Needle lace. The passers-by at the Prešeren Square, at the Three Bridges, and at the Stritar street were able to watch live the making of lace by lace makers from different countries. Almost 1000 lace makers announced their participation, 700 from Slovenia and 300 from abroad. They came from almost all European countries, from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, the USA, Russia, and from the South African Republic.
The champions of bobbin and needle lace were received at the Butchers Bridge by the Idrija Miners Brass Band and majorettes from Sevnica. After the reception the lace makers set on the benches set by the members of the Scout Association of Slovenia. The equipment was loaned by Ljubljana fire departments.
The 17th World Congress of the International Organisation for Bobbin and Needle lace started on Friday. This biennial event was attended by experts and designers, and lace makers from 37 states.
