The largest number of new mothers came from the Upper Carniola region, Gorenjska, but as far as 20% came from other parts of Slovenia. Eva Macun, Head of the Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of the Jesenice General Hospital, finds the reasons within the changes the Jesenice Hospital introduced in recent years in the field of obstetrics, "which brought the focus on the birthing mother and the child; we started complying with their wishes and needs and changing the environment in which the mothers are giving birth".
The birthing centre went through a complete renovation, and changes in obstetrics procedures are being introduced. "We also complied with the wishes of birthing mothers, and their birthing plans. We started cooperating with them, turning our relation into partnership. They were able to address their questions to us, and to discuss the options for the delivery of their child we considered safe enough."
They try to comply with the wishes of birthing mothers regarding the number of persons present at the delivery, the accommodation of their families during their stay in the hospital, and a great step forward was made in the field of midwifery, also by introducing a midwifery clinic. They intend to keep raising standards. Thus they are planning a renovation of the area for special care of newborn babies, and post-birth accommodation for families. Since they don't have means for that, they are again asking for help from donors.
