As explained by the head of the Manuscript, Rare and Old Prints Collection Marijan Rupert, NUK is very pleased with the collection of one of the most influential linguists of the 20th century. Toporišič placed a landmark within the Slovenian linguistics with his work, with more than 2000 articles, and other publications. Rupert reminded that his death has left a large void.
Rupert explained that the material NUK received would join the legacy of other important figures from the field of humanities, and mentioned that in the library a number of linguistic documents were stored, from Father Hippolytus grammar, the legacy of linguists Jernej Kopitar and Franc Metelko, to works of contemporary linguists.
A part of the Toporišič estate will be included in the exhibition Slovenian Grammars and Dictionaries: Language's Kiss. The exhibition will open on November 19, at the occasion of the beginning of the International Symposium of Slovenian Studies.
