The general market value of apartments in the municipality stands at 1,191 euros per square meter, a house with land costs a little less than 119 thousand euros, the average age is at around 40 years and is two years lower than the Slovenian average. Cerklje na Gorenjskem also has 2,3 percent more highly educated people compared to the Slovenian average, which stands at 14,2 percent.
Around one month before the local elections the Finance magazine composed a list of the statistically best places in Slovenia to live in. The research was done on the basis of several criteria, among which were the work salaries, employers, health, security, access to real estate and other infrastructure. At the top of the list of 212 Slovenian municipalities, apart from Cerklje na Gorenjskem, are also Žiri, Gorenja vas – Poljane, Železniki and Šenčur.
Health record also better in Cerklje
The Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem is best known by Slovenians for the Krvavec ski resort and the Jože Pučnik airport. But locals, asked about the quality of life, mention a number of other things: "Everything is at hand: a health care centre, a school, a gym, a recreation hall, there’s enough cultural and sports activities," say passers-by. Statistics confirm what the locals say: the health record of the population is better than in any other municipality. "The indicators for those receiving medicine are all below the average, so we could say that the population is of better health," says Tatjana Kofol from the National Institute of Public Health. That can also be seen in the number of sick leaves, which is lower than the Slovenian average. Children are also healthier in the Municipality of Cerklje na Gorenjskem. The only inglorious statistic is connected to alcohol consumption, adds Kofol: "More people are hospitalized for drinking too much alcohol." Cerklje na Gorenjskem is among the most economically developed municipalities, and the higher average pay is mostly the result of the high wages of air traffic controllers at the Brnik airport.
Osilnica average pay at 744 euros net
At the other end of Slovenia, in the far south, is the municipality with the lowest quality of life. The Municipality of Osilnica, or for many the land of Peter Klepec, is with a population of 370 also the municipality with the lowest number of inhabitants. There are practically no young people in Osilnica. "It’s usually all empty. When you come by you might see a person here and there," said teacher Alenka Čop.
