At the Ljubljana Castle Galerija S the visiting exhibition of the Museum of Recent History Ljubljana 100 years ago is open to visitors. The curator of the exhibition Marko Štepec explained that 43 relatively rare photographs are exhibited, which will take the visitors through the socio-political and cultural life of Ljubljana during the First World War.
The exhibition is conceived in a chronological order, from August 1914 to the great manifestation in October 2018 at the Congress square, when the foundation of the State of Slovenes, Croats and Serbs was proclaimed.
The photographs concentrate on prisoners, refugees, departures to front, bombardment, shortage of food, and disintegration of the monarchy. Some of the photographs are from the museum collection, and quite a large number was borrowed from private collections.
The photographs also show the situation in Ljubljana after the departure of soldiers, when only women, children and older people remained in the city, and had to face food shortage, militarisation of the daily routine, abolishment of social rights, and changes in workdays.
