For a long time now, cycling in Ljubljana is no longer a recreational activity, but a necessity allowing people to normally move inside the city, especially across the squares and streets that are closed for car traffic. In its research, the Ljubljana Cyclists' Network did not survey tourists, but those who daily commute to work, school or for other errands in the city on bicycles. The President of the network, Lea Rikato Ružič, says the level of satisfaction among cyclists improves every year. However, she also says that cyclists are calling on the municipality to adopt measures for more safety, both for the bicycles and cyclists.
It appears that cyclists are frequent visitors of police stations, demanding more action and work on catching the city's bicycle thieves. The city council did discuss the issue of protected bicycle parking sheds, but nothing has been done since then.
