The state budget will contribute 12 million euros towards the project. The municipalities of Ljubljana, Medvode, and Vodice will fund the remainder of the cost.

The project will see the upgrade of the central waste water treatment plant in Ljubljana, while the outdated waste water treatment plants in Brod, Pirniče, Rakova Jelša, Vodice, and Polje will be shut down.

The upgrade will also benefit 22,000 residents who live in areas currently not served by municipal waste water systems. Around 131 kilometers of sewage networks are to be built as part of the project.

The upgrade is the largest environmental project in the 2014-2020 programming period for Slovenia.
