The lynxes fought like lions, and with 1:0 had a victory within reach after two thirds of the match. The goal was scored already in the 7th minute of the match by Jan Urbas, who couldn't play the first two matches for fever.
In the final third Slovakia applied enormous pressure, and carried by the support of 8,000 fans in the Cez Arena turned the match in their favour. Andrej Meszaros (48) and Marian Gaborik scored a goal each, the second time one second before the end of the match the puck entered the undefended Slovenian goal. The judges (partly) played a role in the turn of events; from the 45th to 50th minute of the match three Slovenian players were suspended, and the equalizing goal by Meszaros was scored after the dubious suspension of Aleš Mušič.
The shot ratio was 33:23 in favour of Slovakia. Robert Kristan did an excellent job protecting the Slovenian goal. After a day of rest Slovenia will face Finland on Thursday evening (20.15).
